A Summer Intern’s Involvement
Written by DCLI intern, Sam R.
Being an intern with the MCCD (Macon County Conservation District) this summer has been absolutely amazing, to say the least. All sorts of different opportunities and tasks came my way that exposed me to things I hadn’t necessarily done before, let alone in a work environment! These new experiences not only allowed me to improve my photography skills but also have fun and meet new people while doing it! This article provides an in-depth look into my experience as an intern with the MCCD and also explores how it influenced my personal and professional growth.
This summer, I decided to showcase one of my favorite hobbies and ended up applying my skills at this nature center! In addition to taking photos, I would also volunteer in camps and tag along on trips to places like the Homestead Prairie Farm and even the Mueller Museum! Being an intern here was truly amazing and really showed me how easy it is to improve on the things you like if you work on them long enough. Not to mention, this facility holds all sorts of trails and even bird windows that make it one of the most scenic places I’ve ever been! Little details such as those made the experience here much more enjoyable for not only me but everyone else who visited!
I truly enjoyed working with the staff here as well. Everyone was exceptionally supportive and wasn’t afraid to share knowledge with me! Their attitudes made me feel far more than welcomed and, in my personal opinion, created a nice, thriving environment that influenced tons of productivity. My overseers, Ms. Ashton and Ms. Alysia, both had cheerful attitudes and always made me feel a lot better about what I was doing, even when I wasn’t so sure about something. My fellow interns also grew close to me and added to this workplace’s delightful aura. In addition to the community, there was never a dull moment; something new always came up, and that’s what I liked about working here!
In conclusion, working here as a summer intern has been amazing, and I genuinely believe that it has improved not only how I work but who I am as a person. Everyone here was nice and made me feel at home within the first week, and it caused me to get used to this job way faster than I expected.
