If you ever wanted to help make a difference in our community there are opportunities for you with the Macon County Conservation District. Every year, hundreds of volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the operation of our conservation areas and historic sites. Whether greeting visitors, or assisting with programs, our volunteers help the Conservation District serve the residents of Macon County.
Volunteers are essential to the Conservation District. All potential applicants are interviewed and placed in an area suited to their interests and abilities. We welcome your inquiries about our programs and hope you consider applying for a volunteer position!

Volunteers at the Rock Springs Nature Center staff our information desk, work in our library, lead hikes, assist with nature education activities, assist with programs, day camp, lead tours at the historic sites, care for the heritage garden, and make maple syrup.
Volunteers also assist with natural area restoration projects. This may involve the removal of exotic species, seed gathering for planting native plants in other locations, prairie burning, monitoring bluebird trails, or participating as a citizen scientist in scientific studies at various conservation areas.
Volunteers at the Homestead Prairie Farm dress the part to give tours of our circa 1860 farmstead. Other volunteers present programs or help with carpentry, painting, gardening, and Pioneer Adventure Camp.
