Join the Macon County Conservation Foundation at the Prairie Pedal in 2010!
The Prairie Pedal is a fundraising event for the Macon County Conservation Foundation. Proceeds are used to plant prairies, trees and wetlands throughout Macon County.
These “wild” areas not only support native wildlife but, provide a place for people to walk or hike through a cool oak forest on a hot summer day, to view wildlife, cross-country ski, or enjoy fall color. They provide areas in which to unwind after a hectic day at work, for families to explore, and children to play.
The forests filter the air we breathe and the wetlands filter storm water before it flows into the rivers and Lake Decatur, improving the quality of the water. In Macon County, the lake is the source of drinking water for most of the population. Prairies provide habitat for pollinating insects, birds, and mammals.
The conservation areas in Macon County provide large tracts of natural area that support wildlife and greatly improve the quality of life for the community. They provide a destination for visitors from surrounding counties as well.
Thank you to all of our Prairie Pedalers and sponsors for supporting this fundraising event. Your gift today will reap rewards well into the future as we work to improve the quality of the natural areas so we can all enjoy them today and our children and grandchildren and their grandchildren can enjoy them tomorrow.
