Homestead Prairie Farm Begins 2008 Season!
Homestead Prairie FarmHomestead Prairie Farm, an 1860 living history site and house museum, opens for the season on June 1, 2008 and will be open for tours every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. until October 26, 2008.

It's time to get out the camping gear again! Friends Creek Conservation Area Campground is now open!

Campsites are available on a first come, first served basis or by reservation. Campground includes electric and non-electric sites, showers, flush toilets, and a dump station.

Macon County Conservation District Summer CampsThe Macon County Conservation District has offered quality day camp experiences to the youth of Macon County for over 20 years. Our camps are a perfect place for positive, fun, and well-supervised opportunities for children to interact with nature.

Through hands-on, outdoor experiences, including hikes, arts and crafts, games, activities and play, children will have a fun and exciting summer while they gain awareness and knowledge of the “natural” world and an appreciation of local history.

Rodney T. Miller Wetland Dedication
The Macon County Conservation District and Macon County Conservation Foundation will be dedicating the Rodney T. Miller Wetland on Monday, May 19 at 1:00 P.M. The wetland area is located at the northeast corner of Brozio Lane and Rock Springs Road at the Rock Springs Conservation Area in Decatur, Illinois. Click here for a map of the Rock Springs Area.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony honoring Rodney T. Miller, Jean Harper and Ray Harper whose families and friends made the wetland improvements and wildlife viewing areas possible. The dedication ceremony will be held at 1:00 P.M. followed by wetland hikes led by a naturalist, and the planting of wildflowers.


Public Information Session Scheduled to Present Restoration Plans for Griswold Conservation Area

On Thursday, May 29, 2008 from 4:30-7:00, the Macon County Conservation District will hold a public information session to review plans for the restoration of the Griswold Conservation Area.  The meeting will be held at the Blue Mound Memorial Public Library, 213 N. St. Marie Street, Blue Mound, Illinois.  The concept plans will be available for review and staff will be on hand to answer questions.
